Vanilla Custard
I recently visited Bart, one of the organizers of the amazing When Whisky Meats BBQ festival, which will take place for the third time on June 8, 2024. During our pleasant chat, of course, a few things were tasted and on his shelf was this Auchentoshan, of which I do have a bottle in my Toshan Temple, but which I had not yet tasted myself (imagine that!). We rectified it that evening. The dram was accompanied by a delicious snack... But I can't reveal that here yet, of course. You will have to come and discover that at the festival. What I can tell you is that it was a perfect match.
Typical Toshan nose on lemongrass, young apples, vanilla custard, candied lime peels and a little ginger. Hint of digestive biscuits. Spring in the glass.
Good body. Nice and oily. And immediately fresh on apples and all kinds of lemon flavors, but a tad spicy thanks to the wood spices. Feel free to add some ginger, liquorice and white pepper. Magnificent? No. Fresh and cheerful: yes!
In the finish I get some sugared almonds and candied ginger. I confess: the finish is very short.
A very naked Auchentoshan, if you know what I mean. But despite its young age, it is already very beautiful and great as a summer aperitif. Thanks for the extra sample, Bart.
