Drankenhandel GOS is a whisky shop in Heers - not exactly on my doorstep, but they also ship, so it was a breeze to get two bottles of this to Gentbrugge. This is a young Auchentoshan from a refill barrel that was bottled especially for them in the Old Particular series from Douglas Laing.
Lime, overripe pear, lemongrass and white chocolate: that's the nose of this youngster in a nutshell. Very clean and very accessible, just as I expect from my favorite Lowlander in a bourbon barrel. Fine.
Nicely oily and, despite the high ABV, perfectly accessible. More white fruit, but now with a nice spicy edge: white pepper, licorice, cloves and even mustard seeds. The lemongrass returns and the malt even takes on a candy-like quality midpalate, like lemon lollipops. I like this!
The finish is rather short, but satisfying, on white fruit, creamy white chocolate and cardamom.
Nice cask selection from Ruben and his team. I'm glad I got my hands on three bottles of this. Thank you for the sample, Rony, who started this pleasant experience and thank you Ruben for the beautiful fun package that I received.
