This has
been showing off in my closet for a few years and was a birthday
gift from my Dutch buddy Stjepko. Yes, strange name. But his roots
are in the Balkans. Doesn't matter; it is a top bloke and I was very
happy with this gift, but the time has come to open the bottle,
because that is what whisky is made for. This single bourbon barrel
bottled at cask strength yielded 239 bottles.
Cadenhead is the bottler.
The nose
starts very floral. Wild flowers in the meadow. Something that
reminds me of mud for a moment. Bizarre, but not unpleasant. A lot
of grass and even more butter. Then some vanilla and soft notes of
pineapple and papaya. Something of overripe banana. It's far from
bad, but it still takes some getting used to.
On the
palate it is much better. Creamy, bright, fruity and sweet.
Beautiful notes of beeswax, lime juice and bell pepper. Feel free to
add some baker's spices. The banana returns, supplemented with
grapefruit.
The
finish is relatively long and suddenly shows a surprisingly salty
touch on the deathbed.
