Citric Acid Candy
The Warehouse Range from German bottler Malts of Scotland always bottles lovely, special and very high quality single casks. It makes me happy that they found this beautiful Auchentoshan, despite its young age. And bottled at cask strength of course.
The alcohol manifests itself immediately. But once you get past that burn, you get a lovely nose on white fruit, lemon juice, heather and a hint of Turkish Delight. There is a nice herbal side to it as well. Freshly cut grass and garden herbs. Very good.
The arrival is creamy, powerful and peppery. Add some ginger and liquorice. Becomes piquant for a while. But then it nestles on the palate and offers up a truckload of citrus – both lime and lemon juice – followed by crystal sugar, Turkish Delight, gooseberries and again that lovely herbal note. Very mouth coating and pleasant. I was told that it becomes even better with water, but I found it so pleasant that I couldn’t move myself to add water. It is very quaffable neat.
The finish is very long, soft on the spices but mostly bittersweet on citric acid candy.
I poured this at my birthday tasting and it was unanimously approved. When I pour it now – some four weeks later – I can only concur with the findings of last month. Top dram!
