If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!
Auchentoshan
16 Year Old 2001 Signatory for Tasttoe Bourbon Barrel 800114 Number of bottles : 195 ABV : 58.2% Color : Light gold Tasted on 15/04/2018 |
Mango!
This 16 Year Old Auchentoshan also comes from the warehouses of Signatory in Pitlochry and appeared in the Un-Chillfiltered Collection, but was bottled at cask strength. All 195 bottles went toe Tasttoe, a well-known Belgian retailer.
Oh, yes! What a lovely nose indeed! Auchentoshan at its best. Bourbon barrel? Then how is it that this almost smells tropical? I get all kinds of fruit with mango in the lead. But also pineapple, pears, kiwi, banana and gooseberries. A hint of mandarin. Some toasted oak too. But so, so lovely. I am a happy camper.
Despite the high ABV, the arrival is soft. Only after the malt has caressed your tongue for half a minute will you feel its power. Less tropical than the nose, but still very fruity with the emphasis on citrus. Think pink grapefruit and mandarin. Lemongrass. Liquorice.
The long finish leaves the mouth fairly dry.
Yes, this is the better work by Auchentsohan and I can recommend it heartily. Around 110. I happily bought two!
