Auchentoshan 18 Year Old 1984 The Maltman Meadowside Blending Company American Oak Cask #3872 Number of bottles : undisclosed ABV : 46% Color : Sunlight to gold Tasted on 25/01/2013 |
Authentic
The Maltman is a label from The Meadowside Blending Company, run by Donald
Hart (of Hart Brothers fame) and his son Andrew. Andy and I have
been in touch for a while now and he is very passionate about his
whiskies. I tasted this Auchentoshan 18 Year Old before and was
immediately hooked, so got me two bottles. These are my notes, after
tasting it for the third time.
The nose is typical for Auchentoshan, but with a little extra edge, which
immediately paints a smile on my face. Very sweet on (a lot of)
vanilla, malt, citrus and pineapple. I also get some mint and hints
of peach and thyme. The triple distilled character comes out
beautifully. I am a fan.
On the palate, the fruitiness is taken to the next level. Even more
citrus (oranges and pink grapefruit), but also banana, melon and
soft lemon grass. Creamy. It is pretty punchy too, for a dram
bottled at this modest ABV.
The long finish is warming, fiery on green apple skins.
I said it before, this is the kind of Auchentoshan that makes me happy. Very faithful to the distillery character. Authentic Auchentoshan.
