Auchentoshan
15 Year Old
1997 Cask #LD9812 Douglas of Drumlanrig Refill Hogshead Number of bottles: 120 ABV : 46% Color : white wine Tasted on 30/09/2014 |
Lavender Soap
Douglas of Drumlanrig is a series by Langside Distillers, who are in turn
linked to Douglas Laing. This 15 Year Old Auchentoshan was launched
last year. It is a refill
hogshead which partially explains the very pale color.
The nose is sweet, but also surprisingly spicy. Butter cookies, citrus
and banana. Unfortunately it also has a slightly chemical side that
is rather unpleasant. Pepper and ginger and with a bit of
imagination even some cinnamon. Honey? A hint of lanvender, but
luckily not over the top.
On the palate, though, it is an immediate disappointment. Pity. The
lavender turns into soap. The spices (mostly pepper now) cannot make
up for i tand the fruit does not stand a chance. Darn, this is truly
not good.
The finish is dry and spicy, but the chemical edge makes it a struggle to
get through.
This should have been used in a blend. The black sheep of Auchentoshan. One to quickly forget. Yikes!
