If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!
Auchentoshan
11 Year Old
2003 Cask #100314 The Ultimate Bourbon Hogshead Number of bottles: 324 ABV : 46% Color : sunlight Tasted on 30/09/2014 |
White Peach
The Ultimate is a label of the Dutch bottler Van Wees. I tried several of
their releases already (including two Auchentoshan) and will do so
now again. This Auchentoshan is 11 years old, was distilled in 2003
and bottled this year at drinking strength. It is fairly pale.
The nose is pretty light on vanilla and white peach, pears and the skin
of coconuts. Touch floral as well, but far from disturbing. After a
few moments, it becomes creamier and citrus fruit kicks in. Barely
any spices. Soft and very accessible.
It is a lot creamier and spicier on the palate. White pepper, ginger and
some liquorice precede the citrus. The white peach returns and
becomes louder. Half sweet and half dry. Less delicate than the nose
allowed you to anticipate.
The finish is sweet, spicy and medium long.
This is a bottle for on the terrace to enjoy with some friends over a good conversation. Beware though: dangerously quaffable
.
