If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!
Auchentoshan 15 Year Old 1997 Bottled 2013 Douglas Laing Old Particular Refill hogshead DL 9971, 336 bts ABV : 48,4% Color : full gold Tasted on 09/10/2013 |
Spring
The newest
Auchentoshan from Douglas
Laing was bottled in their brand new Old Particular range, of which
I already tried ad fantastic Auchroisk,
a superb Glen Garioch, but also a soapy Bowmore. I was looking
forward to this Auchentoshan, of which I received a sample straight
from the Douglas Laing stables, for which I am very grateful.
This is no classic
Auchentoshan on the nose. It has something extra. The lemongrass and
grain cookies are there, surely, but it also has a nice edge of
grapefruit zeste. Wonderfully bittersweet and fruity with some wild
flowers in the background. A touch of vanilla. Fresh. Reminds me of
spring.
The attack is quite punchy. It dances on the palate and immediately
offers a big spiciness that you would not have guessed from the
nose. Loads of pepper on the obligatory citrus fruit. Green banana
kicks in, as do some toffee apples. Delicious bitterness from the
oak. This is very good indeed.
All of this continues nicely into the fairly long finish.
This is the better work from my favorite distillery. I have ordered my bottle! Thanks Fred, Chris & Cara!
