Mark Dermul
If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!

Jelly Beans
Under impulse of the sympathetic Mark Watt, Cadenhead (famous independent
bottler with HQ in Campbeltown) launched a new series with quite a
retro look. Dumpy bottles with black labels. One of those
immediately got my attention, for it was an Auchentoshan. I got it
as a gift from my buddy Imanuel (thanks!) and shared it with him.
Here we go!
The nose is light and delicate and immediately 100% Auchentoshan. Mild vanilla and some citrus, but mostly coconut and very sweet hard candy like jelly beans. Hints of pineapple and even some mango. Very fresh, very fruity and very typical for my favorite distillery.
It is quite oily and mildly spicy on the palate. Think soft
peppers. But again immediately honeysweet. Citrus retuns, but with
added mildly bitter white grapefruit. Again some coconut and a hint
of bubblegum. Turkish Delight, maybe? Lime sorbet and pretty zesty.
While the finish is rather short, it does put a smile on my face.
This is a very typical, albeit very sweet, Auchentoshan. Perfect aperitif!
