If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!
Auchentoshan Batch 2 (500ml) That Boutique-y Whisky Company Number of bottles : 295 ABV : 46,6% Color : Amber Tasted on 16/03/2013 |
Syrupy
A few weeks ago I tried the Batch 1 of my favorite distillery from
this range by That Boutique-y Whisky Company (from the chaps at
Master of Malt).
I thought it was ok, but not very faithful to the true character of
this triple distilled Lowlander. Batch 2 was recently released,
almost twice as many bottles at a slightly lower ABV. The color is
almost identical, maybe a bit lighter.
On the nose: ha! This is typical Auchentoshan! Slightly floral with
wonderful touches of caramelized orange peel, Pink Lady apples,
honey and sultana. Some sniffing tobacco and maraschino cherries,
albeit somewhat light. Very softly seasoned. Very nice!
It is nice and creamy on the palate. Almost syrupy and mouth
coating. Some orange marmalade, toasted oak, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Baked apples. Almond shavings. Cigar box. Honeysweet. Lavender.
Despite the most likely young age, very well balanced.
The medium long finish shows more lavender, oak and allspice.
This is a great Toshan, its character left intact by the sherry cask. Well done!
