If you can help me expand my whisky palate, especially Auchentoshan, get in touch with me. Much obliged!
Auchentoshan 2 Year Old matured on oloroso sherry cask. Obtained at the Auchentoshan Distillery during our 2011 visit. (can also be found in the Stillman's Collection, available only at the distillery) ABV : 61,0% Color : amber Tasted on 03/07/2011 |
Bamm-Bamm!
The Stillman's Collection, available only at the distillery,
contains 3 bottles of 5cl: new distillate, 1 Year Old matured on a
bourbon cask and 2 Year Old matured on an oloroso sherry cask. I'm
trying from full bottles of this stuff that could be found in the
Blender's Room at the distillery. While the bottle 2 Year Old from
the Stillman's Collection has an ABV of 62,5%, our sample has an ABV
of 61%. It matured for two years on an oloroso sherry cask.
Hello there! What a nose for such a young thing. Rough, to be sure,
but already the aromas of lemon, grapes and a bucketload of honey
are evident. And quite spicy as well. Yes, this will mature into a
wonderful whisky, no doubt!
Pretty rough on the palate as well, but full of flavour already.
Spicy again! I get black pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon, upholstering
the raisins and plums. If you were to taste this blind, I wouldn't
be surprised if you were to mistake this one for a young Speysider.
The finish of this youngling is already wonderfully long, very
fruity and spicy and surprisingly mature.
If I were to compare the Auchentoshan releases to the Flintstone
family (ok, that's pretty far-fetched, I admit), this would be the
feisty, litte kid Bamm-Bamm.
