It has been quite a while since the last
update, but that has everything to do with the renovation of my house.
While I previously had a small cabinet in the hallway, I took the
opportunity to incorporate a nice display cabinet in my soon-to-be
living room.
It turned out the cabinet expanded a bit
beyond the original idea.
The renovations, which took over 6 months,
were quite extensive insofar that my ground floor and basement are now
incorporated one large living area annex chill room. A new kitchen was
built in what was previously my garden. You can imagine it was a huge
undertaking.
Part of the floor was removed to connect both
floors and here is where it becomes interesting in terms of a whisky
display cabinet. For I was able to install a cabinet that is 3 meters
wide and a little over 5 meters high, thus spanning two floors!
The upper floor contains all the official
releases by the Auchentoshan distillery, while the lower floor is now
the home to my collection of independent releases.
The highlight of the collection is my pair of
Auchentoshan 50 Year Old 1957. Remember this
story, published many moons ago? Clearly it needs updating, for now
I do in fact own both releases. Sherry Butt #479 yielded 171 bottles at
46,8% ABV. I own bottle 100/171. Sherry butt #480 yielded only 144
bottles at 49,1% ABV. My beautiful wife Sofie got this one for the
collection. It is bottle 21/144.
I plan to open one of these babies when I
celebrate my 50th birthday. It is still a long way off.
In the evening, the lights of the cabinet bask the living room in a beautiful and peaceful amber glow. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Toshan Heaven.
