In August 2012 Auchentoshan launched this cream
liqueur, comparable to the popular Baileys. They are not the only ones,
though. Before them Glenfiddich, Edradour,
It smells sweet and creamy, but
I cannot find any Auchentoshan on the nose. Now, that is not a problem.
It smells like a nice cream liqueur and that is of course the goal.
It is silky soft and very creamy
(doh!) on the palate. I am reminded of vanilla ice cream with raisins
and caramel. Immensely sweet, of course, but oh so good with my coffee
after a hearty dinner.
In the finish – if you can speak
of a finish in a cream liqueur – the character of Auchentoshan does
surface a bit, bringing a big smile to my face.
I am not a big fan of this sort
of drink, but for Auchentoshan, I gladly make an exception. And it was a
pleasant surprise. My wife likes this even better than Baileys, ha! Pour
it chilled or even add a cube of ice. Only available from the
