Rogaro

Location from Star Wars 'Attack of the Clones'

Just west of Griante and north of Tremezzo, you'll find the community of Rogaro. Along the Via San Martino we'll come across som green fields, that were used as a shooting location for Star Wars 'Attack of the Clones'. The field became the background for the Picknick Meadow.

 

 

The field is privately owned. It is easily recognizable by the line of trees. The field itself - which was leased by Lucasfilm a couple of months before with the explicit request not to cut the grass - can be found at gps 45°59'29N-9°13'41E.

The field can also be recognized by the small building with the caved-in roof and the lone tree in the background.

The lone tree in the background is another marker for you.

 

If you go back to the road and turn north for about 100 meters, just short of the private garden of the neighbours, you'll find another field on your right hand side. This field was used to shoot the scene with the shaak, the cow-like animal, that was obviously added in post production.

 

A little further, you'll find a private residence. Lucasfilm was allowed access by the owners, so that it could be used as a dressing room for the two lead actors, Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman.

Twenty meters further north, this time on the left hand side, you'll see an unfinished house. It's been like that since before 2000 and still looks like that today. It was used for catering during production. So that's where everybody had lunch and afternoon tea.

Taking the Via 4 Novembre back to Tremezzo, you'll come across a nice, little restaurant: La Fagurida. While it has nothing to do with Star Wars directly, it does indirectly. It was the favourite restaurant of the late Sir Alec Guinness, the original Obi-Wan Kenobi. He frequented the place in the 1960s, long before Star Wars was made.
